the first year

a year ago on this date, he wrote this.

August 30, 2003
my finest hour....

yep... the wait is finally over... from months, to days, to hours... just 2 more hours to the pernikahan. people have been asking me if i'm getting cold feet... well, not yet... maybe later. i've been rather busy the whole morning, doing last minute chores and errands, till my auntie told me to stop becuz the bridegroom is not supposed to be seen around, tak seri, she says... so here i am at my computer desk, keying in stuff which has history in the making :)

well, the heat is on.. the clock's ticking... just a few hours from now, i'll be a husband. hope nurhana's all right back there... heh..

ok, guys.. just wish me luck and hope i get through the ceremony in one piece :)

a year later, we still have fond memories of that day.

i have to say without a doubt that it's been the most *fulfilling* year in my entire life. it beats most other milestones to date. it's amazing, being married, really. i fully endorse it.

so... what are you waiting for??

(heh. hope i can get more singapore shares for promoting this.)

open crib

i wasn't really looking forward to the impending crowd and mess following a big do at the new crib, but it went, erm, surprisingly well. you can always count on mum, aunts (and somebody's maid) for support when it comes to such events. i was flailing about, telling everyone where everything is, but they're mighty resourceful, those makciks, i tell you.

in any case, i made myself useful giving 'tours' to everyone and making sure no lil 'uns make their 'mark' on the furniture. the lil 'uns (and the adults too) behaved themselves. *clap clap* but i did follow fifah around coz she, with her permanent bib for her uncontrollable drool, was the most likely to scamper around poking at things with her drooley paws. well, she didn't drool on the furniture, but on an unsuspecting baby who was happily napping away. oh, but she promptly wiped the drool from baby fazli's forehead after kissing it. heh. drool-trained fifah.

and the award for the best housewarming gift (to date) goes to... sham & haz! *applause*

i would never have thought of a mortar & pestle, a mini one at that, perfect for my hands. (eh, wait a minute, hana? mashing up sambal belachan?? something's not quite right there.) they also picked out a lavender-scented room spray (just what i've been looking for, gasp), and to top it off, they're are all PURPLE. now, how'd they ever guess it'd go with the room? *glee*

and we now have sooo many glasses filling our kitchen cabinets. *counts* 10 mugs, 22 glasses, 18 teacups. erm. they'll come in handy when we need to scoop out water in a mini noah's ark flood, maybe?

oops, stripey again.

mama mia

a leisurely stroll along the frozen goods aisle at carrefour brought about a sudden burst of inspiration. "pizza!"

"let's see," he muses, "pizza dough... mozzarella cheese... capsicum... minced meat... let's do it!" (make pizza, that is. what were you guys thinking?)

of course, we then contemplated a fuss-free dining at the nearest pizza hut. "for $25, we get a meal for two, we get served, and we don't have to wash dirty dishes. hmm."

but steel determination set in.

and the satisfaction he gets from creating a smiley face on his pizza, not to mention, loading it with toppings full to the brim.

we don't even have proper baking trays. and we don't really know how to use the microwave-cum-convectional oven. he presses the "cookies" setting, rationalising that cookies, like pizzas, should have a similar baking temperature. erm. ok.

but it turned out alright after all.

after attacking three of these makeshift pizzas, we were ready to give up.

mozzarella hangover!

wares for the house

i went *slightly* crazy last evening.

how could you not hyperventilate even slightly from just looking at the endless horizon of neatly-categorised goods with the word SALE dangling majestically on every bin of items?

yes (cue drumrolls).... it was the john little warehouse sale at the expo.

i scuttled to and fro, flitting from bin to bin, mouth slightly agape.

i SO wanted to make a beeline to the shoes and bags section, but my homely instincts kicked in, and the bed & linen and homeware section pulled me like a magnetic force. in my head i was already picturing the pretty bedsheets in the room, the matching placemats on the table, the fluffy towels on my, er, guests.

it says something about us, huh, when we no longer think of adorning our bodies (as much) but rather our house. izad was eyeing more knives (psycho *rolls eyes*) and water jugs.
and ouhhhhh we gasped when we saw these funky plates and cups selling for $10 for any TWELVE (count it) TWELVE pieces! so a nice set of six costs us... twenty buckeroos baybeh. plus, it's one of my favourite brands, 'multiple choice'.

ouh. that's my fascination with fleece. baaa.

eh, but it says "polar fleece". urm, so this isn't from a sheep but an alaskan bear? growwwwl.

on to our next mission. carpets, darling!

bandwidth bandits

if you've landed here, apologies coz our normal blog can't be accessed. our bandwidth's pretty stretched this month (it IS a paid site, you know), so i'll put bits and pieces of my entries here instead. :)

from hen to henna

yesterday was the time of the month for us. yes, pms.

payday means shopping.

and since it's his off day after working all those night shifts, i took the day off too. feels like it's been a while since we went out dating, so we made full use of that free 'i, robot' cinema passes. nothing thrills us more than a cheap date. coz after that, it was pms all the way.

a little vanity splurge took place. the bobbi brown junkie had to stock up on her drugs.

they're my ecstasy, my crystal meth, my special k. (ok, exaggerating again.) but really, i get such a high on my bobbis. and i'm so easily taken in by the counter girls (and she-boys). i am weak. so so weak.

ran some shopping errands for the bride and dropped the goods off at her place. her dais and bridal chamber look all set. and since i'm the unofficial reporter covering the event, i've been allowed to show some previews. hoho.

just as i expected, i got a flashback from my own wedding preps merely a year ago, this feeling of awe at things being prettied up for your big day... then the sleepless nights.. the hustle and bustle.. the everything's-going-wrong feeling. ouhhh.

and hey hey, jewel was in da house. jewel the henna artist, that is. not the blonde alaskan singer.

with a skilled and steady hand, she deftly curled, whirled and twirled her henna cone to decorate the bride's tiny feet and hands, the scent of eucalyptus wafting in the air.

the final product? you'll have to wait til the bride's wedding, of course.
but in the meantime, how about i show you the bridesmaid's henna?

i admit i have always been a little squeamish about bright, elaborate henna all over my hands. i clumsily clumped some ill-made henna on my fingertips in reluctance the last time coz everyone expected me to.

but seeing jewel at work, i trusted her (coz she's darned good, y'all) and let her have full reign on my palm. and she did just the right amount and design for squeamish me. (and i could still steer the car with the fresh henna on, heh.)

so all ye brides-to-be, do engage her service. she'll give you a good hand job. ;)

chicks on a hen nite

a hen party took place on friday night with the 77 clan.

the bride-to-be took centrestage. and it was mad...

the self-appointed mother hen (ie. hana) had to take care of the chicks. twas a great responsibility, as one chick almost strayed and fell prey to a guitarist in a band. and later almost got manhandled by two sleazy (pakcik) wolves. mother hen had to shoo the chicks to safety.
but ho ho, it sure was a nite to remember.

the pics don't do justice to the live moments, though.

and unfortunately, the hilarious videos we took couldn't be uploaded coz the files are too large (and hilarious). yes, some raunchy and buang tebiat (shok sendiri??) enrique iglesias and ricky martin music videos took place. hurhur.
